Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) allows for secure, encrypted data to be passed via the web between our servers and the viewer's web browser. SSL requires that the server have a Digital Certificate which is purchased from a third-party company which basically certifies to the viewer that you are who you say you are. This Digital Certificate can be a considerable expense.
There are several options available now for SSL certificates. The two most popular are the basic SSL certificate and the EV certificate. Both offer secure encrypted transmission of the data between the client and server.
The basic certificate displays a blue bar on the browser along with the lock symbol.
The Extended Validation (EV) certificate increases consumer confidence with the knowledge that the company has been validated by the issuing company. It displays a longer green bar with extended information available when the bar is clicked.
